Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in power within the urban setting.
Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team includes the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.
At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the team knows exactly where to go next after a intense opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, striking the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.
Casimir then settled his debts and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
- Kattigan is familiar with the region and cautions that it is a nasty location.
- The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in House Halovar could enable the party enter areas they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter vowed a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.
This means them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.
What’s Next?
From episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Explorers and Strategists parties.
Audiences can anticipate learning which adventurers will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
