The Video Platform Grants Users Power to Decrease AI-Generated Content in Timelines

The platform is rolling out a updated setting that permits them to cut down on the volume of AI-made videos appearing in their streams. This initiative comes as the platform disclosed that it now features in excess of 1 billion content made with AI.

Pilot Phase and Launch

This change is in a pilot phase over the following weeks before a full-scale rollout. This shift coincides with a rise in content created by AI, fueled by new content generation software.

AI Content on Other Platforms

Studies have shown that nearly one in 10 of the fastest-growing video streams on a popular video site only show clips produced artificially. A large amount of this content is classified as mass-produced AI material, a term for substandard, bulk-generated content that is frequently illogical or dreamlike.

“We know from our community that a lot of users appreciate content produced via AI tools, ranging from AI artwork to informative clips, and we want to give people the option to see more or less of that, depending on their own choices,” commented a company executive.

Scale of AI Content

TikTok shared that there are presently 1.3bn videos on its network labeled as AI-generated. Collectively, more than 100 mn media items are submitted to the service daily, making clips made by AI a limited percentage of its overall inventory.

User Control Features

Members will be in a position to reduce or increase the volume of AI-generated videos they see by opening the content preference setting in the platform and selecting “AI-generated content”. Other topics that currently be adjusted under the filter encompass current affairs, clothing, beauty, and choreography.

Platform Guidelines

The platform’s policies oblige creators to label convincing AI-generated content, and it prohibits dangerous AI impersonations of well-known individuals or crisis events. Any believable AI video that is not labeled can be deleted under its user guidelines.

Additionally, the app will henceforth add an AI-generated label to content produced via its proprietary AI systems, or flagged by an industry-wide initiative for recognizing AI-generated material. This action is designed to stop users from attempting to bypass the tagging system.

AI Literacy Programs

TikTok is furthermore introducing a $2m awareness program for professionals and institutions to produce educational content about ethical AI use. This program will support educational bodies dedicated to educating computer science.

Moderation Strategy

The platform has defended its moderation strategy, amid controversy over intentions to make redundant a large number of review team members in the United Kingdom. It is expected to eliminate a significant number of roles in its trust and safety division in its British office, with labor groups and online safety experts raising concerns that staff are being displaced by machine-led review.

A trust and safety lead clarified that human moderation would remain essential, but artificial intelligence can safeguard staff by eliminating the most graphic content ahead of it is viewed by people. The platform reported a notable drop in shocking and graphic content handled by human moderators over the previous year due to reliance on its machine learning processes.

We believe it is crucial to balance humans and technology to ensure user safety,” the executive stated. “We’ll have people as integral to the approach, but we also think it’s extremely critical to minimize viewing of dangerous material as swiftly, which is where a lot of the machine support is making a difference process content quickly.”
